The Community & Mental Health Convention 2022
Post Pandemic Mental Fitness. What now?
Bringing like minded individuals and organisations who are passionate about community activities, upliftment and mental health together
Professional Development, Community And Networking

The âCommunity & Mental Health Conventionâ was born out of the realization that vulnerable people often cannot get the help they need because individuals, professionals and organizations who work within the spheres where mental health issues are evident, often do not know about each other and also do not know who or where to refer them to.
Our goal is to create a beneficial professional development and networking opportunity for the purpose of connecting like-minded individuals who can learn from each other, discuss their needs and important relevant topics, as well as help them discover what resources are available so that they can help others and/or find help for themselves as well.
Who should attend? Anyone who works with or wants to learn more about helping the vulnerable – psychologists, social workers, teachers, life coaches, community organizations etc. We encourage employers who want to help their staff as well as parents, concerned family members, friends and colleagues to attend.
Those who attend this event will learn and gain valuable insight into their journey going forward!

Press Release
Western Cape Post-Pandemic Community/Mental Health Networking Convention Launched
The Family Counselling Centre (TFCC) and Far South Counselling (FSC) NPC, mental health support organizations based in Fish Hoek, Western Cape, are launching their first Community And Mental Health Convention for those who would like to network with and learn from like-minded individuals, professionals and community organizations.
Andrea Nettel, CEO/Director of TFCC and FSC is aiming to provide a networking space where those that deal with mental health issues in their respective fields, can benefit from meeting each other and discussing pertinent community and mental health issues.
For more information, please visit https://familycounsellingcentre.co.za/mentalhealthconvention
Andrea says that although many services are duplicated, there are those that are missing. The hope of the convention is to unlock the disconnect and gaps between the private and public organisations, professionals and government institutions and start conversations and ask how organisations can help.
The two-day convention is being held on 19 and 20 August at the King of Kings Baptist Church in Sunvalley and will host exhibition stalls showcasing local organisations and business services throughout the convention, which is open to the public on Friday afternoon and a VIP screening of ‘Disconnected’ on Friday evening.
Saturday’s conference event will include presentations from various professionals including doctors, past principals, organisation heads, and includes an interactive panel discussion entitled âPost-pandemic mental fitness – What now?â
The Friday evening VIP screening of the moving documentary ‘Disconnected’ tells the unscripted stories of the people affected by suicide. The intention of this documentary is to lift the stigma of suicide for those who have lost loved ones as well as provide help for those suffering from depression and anxiety.
The two-day exhibitor’s package is R1,500 for general exhibitors and R960 for NGO organizations. This includes two tickets to the VIP screening and Saturday conference. Conference delegate packages are R680 and include one ticket which provides access to the stalls and VIP screening as well.
Pre-booking for the VIP documentary screening, with tickets at R150 per ticket, is essential for those who want to view the screening but cannot attend the conference.
âThere are so many community and mental health needs right here on our doorstep,â says Andrea Nettel, founding director and counsellor, TFCC. âAnd, likewise, there are so many individuals and organisations who are both passionate about and able to respond to these needs and, in that, contribute to the well-being of the community.â

About The Event Organizers
Far South Counselling & The Family Counselling Centre
We are Christian organisations offering professional and accessible mental health services in the South Peninsula since 2015 and operate from our offices at Valyland Centre in Fish Hoek
THE FAMILY COUNSELLING CENTRE (TFCC) is a fee based counselling centre catering to those who do not have medical aid yet have funds to pay for services. Our prices are well below medical aid rates for that particular reason.
FAR SOUTH COUNSELLING (FSC) offers what we call Donation-Based counselling services to those who do not have ANY means to access mental health services.
TFCC and FSC encourage and facilitate healthy relationships through the provision of a safe space for individuals and families who are struggling to cope with lifeâs challenges. Our respective taglines are âBuilding Healthy Relationshipsâ and âEmpowering Community Mindsâ.
In the past 7 years we have come to realise the immense need in the Far South. We have worked with organisations like Valley Development Project, the local child protection unit; with The Safe House Trust, the local Womenâs Shelter for victims of gender based violence and domestic abuse; local schools and Masicorp, an NGO providing quality education, training and support to the people in Masiphumelele.
